Stanitsas, G. Sirkas and Ath. Pettas in Athens. In 1980 he began a dual career in both Oral Plastic Surgery (UAthens, NYU, UPenn) and the Classical Music of the Near East with an emphasis on Chanting Art &amp; Musicology. He began his first chanting steps with Ath. Pettas, later with Con. Eliadis, first student of Ath. Karamanis, completing his chanting expression with the eminent Dim. Neratzis in the style and interpretation of Master Psaltis Ath. Panagiotides. He studied the theory of neoByzantine Chant in Simon Karas school, and received a Diploma in Byzantine Music with Dion. Heliopoulos at the Argyroupolis Conservatory in Athens. He continued his studies in the theory of Ottoman music with Fer. Ozgoren at the New England Conservatory (Boston), learning yayli tanbur with him and canun with Sehvar Besiroglu at the Istanbul Technical University. He began his career as a chanter in 1983, singing as a soloist with the Greek Byzantine Choir (1982-86) and the Masters of Byzantine Chant (1984-1985) in various concerts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><br \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 In the early 1990s, he moved to the US as a scholar of the A. Onassis Foundation (in periodontal plastic surgery), where he continued his studies in Music Pedagogy at various universities, and in Choral Conducting at various seminars of the American Choral Directors Association. A milestone in George&#8217;s solo career was his apprenticeship with the great vocal teacher Yannis Petropoulos of Philadelphia, who made him a unique Eastern tenor. He founded the professional ensemble Romeiko (1992) with the aim of authentic interpretation of the medieval Byzantine, neo-Byzantine and Ottoman sound from unpublished masterpieces from medieval manuscripts. Since 2012 he has been studying systematically with the distinguished musicologist Dr. Ioannis Arvanitis in learning the old Byzantine notation and the interpretation of the Heirmologic and Sticheraric genre, while he serves as a doctoral candidate on welcoming (\u0394\u039f\u03a7\u0391\u0399) compositions of the court of the Roman Emperor in the municipalities of Constantinople.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><br \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Bilalis performed at the US Cultural Olympiad in Atlanta (1996), at the 100th anniversary of the Parthenon in Nashville, TN (1996), at the World Cup in a blockbuster production by Loukianos Kelaidonis (1994), has recorded for documentaries (Istanbulu Okullari), for films such as &#8220;BRIDES&#8221; by Pant. Voulgaris &amp; Marv. Scorcese (2005). He performed at Herodeion in Athens (2006 and 2013), at the Cultural Capital of ISTANBUL (2010) and at the Athens Concert Hall (2012) with Stamatis Spanoudakis, performing oriental improvisations. In 2018, he performed a world premiere of the AKATHIST HYMN from a 12th century manuscript transcribed by Io. Arvanitis in Athens Cathedral. His discography includes Lazarus come forth (2000), Father Hierarch Nicholas (2003), Do Not Turn Your face (2002), and Myrobleta Dimitrie (2006). He sings bilingually (Greek and English) and teaches neoByzantine Chant at the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, Ocean Twshp NJ.
